Honours
In the sixty-year history of Birkirkara FC, the Club has won eighteen major honours.
Despite the fact that the establishment of the team took place in 1950, no major honours were won before 1999, when the Club won the Lowenbrau Cup, which is now known as the MFA Euro Challenge Cup. This was followed by the Super 5 Cup in the same season.
A year later, under the Presidency of Mr.Victor Zammit and under the tactical guidance of Coach Mr.Atnas Marinov, it was time for Maltese football’s biggest honour to come down to ‘Wied it-Tigri’, as the boys in the striped red and yellow shirt secured the Premier League title. This coincided with the Club’s fiftieth anniversary.
The season 2001-2002 was yet another milestone for ‘the Stripes’ as the team thrilled its supporters with the acquisition of the till then eluding MFA Trophy followed a few days later by the MFA Super Cup. By winning these honours, both for the first time, Birkirkara had now won all the major honours available in the local competitions. Birkirkara repeated this success a year later, holding on to both the Trophy and the Super Cup.
Birkirkara FC seemed to never have enough of the Super Cup in the first half of the first decade of the second millennium, as ‘the Stripes’ won the cup five times in the seasons 2001-2002 to 2005-2006.
The third MFA Trophy title arrived in the 2004-2005 season, just a year before winning the second Premier League title. In the latter season, the club also secured the MFA Super 5 Cup title apart from the already mentioned MFA Super Cup.
Following a highly disappointing 2006-2007 season, the club bounced back by winning the MFA Trophy for the fourth time and MFA European Challenge Cup for the third time in the club’s history.
The most recent major honour to come Birkirkara’s way, is the newly acquired third Premier League, which was awarded to Birkirkara on the 5th of May of 2010, to the joy of numerous ‘Karkarizi’ spread around the country and abroad.
