A superb performance, and five goals in the first half without reply, last Sunday morning enabled Birkirkara Under-15's Team to keep their sole leadership in the APS Bank Under-15's Section B League, when they trounced Gozo FC 5-0.

In view that this game was to be played in Gozo, as part of the preparation for this game, a whole weekend was organised in Gozo for the whole U-14/15 group and 23 boys travelled to Gozo on Saturday. The group had training sessions, and they also played a friendly match, for a taste of what professional football would be like.

Following the 1-1 draw against Kirkop United in the top of the table clash, the Stripes found again their winning touch, as this was the third consecutive victory, after beating Floriana and Zebbug.

In the previous two matches, the Stripes left their best for the second thirty-five minutes of the match, but last Sunday's story was a different one. They went out aggressive and pounded their opponents with five goals in the first half, to put their minds at rest for the three points, early in the match.

The Stripes went out on a brilliant note and they took just seven minutes to take the lead. Ayrton Attard made an excellent run on the left flank, before showing great vision with a precise pass, in the direction of striker Gianluca Zammit, who hit home with a fine shot.

Neil Micallef played an essential role in Birkirkara's second goal, as the promising midfielder showed great footwork to dribble past three players, before one of his usual accurate passes found Isaac Ciranna, who hit past Gozo's goalkeeper.

With two goals up early in the match, the Stripes continued to show their total superiority while striker Gianluca Zammit continued to show his striking skills as he added another two goals to round off his first-half performance with a hat-trick.

Gozo were unable to make a reaction as they were stunned by Birkirkara's dominance in the first half and the latter did not hold back as they managed to score their fifth goal in the first half, thanks to Ayrton Attard.

After the first half ended with a most comfortable 5-0 lead for the Stripes, ten minutes in the second half, Coach Mr. John Vella made use of all his five substitutions.

Despite the inclusion of the five players, little changed in the story of the match as Birkirkara continued to push forward and dominated the match until the referee's full time whistle.

The Under-15's team will be now involved in the Under-15's Knockout next Sunday when they will face Hamrun Spartans. The match will be played at the Rabat Ajax Grounds and is scheduled to kick off at 10:45.
