Birkirkara Under-17's were eliminated from the Under-17's Knockout when they were defeated by Mosta with a score of 4-1 in a match played last Saturday.

The First Half

The game started out on a very high note with Birkirkara piling the pressure on the Mosta defenders. The pressing quickly gave fruit as Clint Zammit won the ball on the edge of the opponent's area. As he advanced quickly, he was fouled in the box, leaving the referee with no other option than to point to the spot. Clint Zammit took charge of the penalty kick, but unfortunately fired high, to the delight of the Mosta clan.

A few minutes later, Darren Buttigieg managed to win another ball, high up in the pitch and he released Ryan Muscat inside the box. Ryan's shot was saved by the goalkeeper but Clint Zammit hammered home to put the Stripes in the lead.

After a shocking start Mosta settled down and started to dominate. Around the 10 minute mark Mosta caught the Stripes defence napping, twice in the space of three minutes, and they managed to turn score around to read 2-1 in their favour.

To make things worse, the Stripes lost an important player, Ryan Muscat, midway through the first half, with a knee injury and he was replaced with Michael Zammit.

Late in the first half Mosta managed to add another goal on the score sheet after some miscommunication between the Birkirkara defenders.

The Second Half

The stripes tried to put in more effort in the second half to try and win something back, but Mosta had other ideas as seven minutes into second half, they managed to add another goal and leave Birkirkara with a mountain to climb.

Birkirkara managed to control Mosta for the rest of the game but it was still evident that the boys in blue were the stronger on the pitch.

With 15 minutes to go Birkirkara effected a triple substitution bringing on Jeremy Sammut, Neil Zahra and Aaron Montebello. The final substitution for Birkirkara took place in last 5 minutes bringing on Roberto Curmi.

First Eleven: Alistair Micallef, Sean Chetcuti, Nigel Bugeja, Zachary Cassar, Maximilian Borg Bartolo, Andre Debono, Aaron Attard, Carl Abela, Ryan Muscat, Darren Buttigieg, Clint Zammit.

Substitutes: Luke Chircop, Aaron Montebello, Roberto Curmi, Michael Zammit, Nigel Borg, Jeremy Sammut, Neil Zahra.
