Stripes, City in clash of the titans

by Ayrton Galea - 22nd March 2014

Birkirkara FC will be involved in a crucial match in their bid for back-to-back titles tomorrow afternoon, when in the much awaited match they will face their nearest title challengers, Valletta FC.

It is not really a make or break match for either team, but a win could give some indication as to where the hard-fought Premier League will be heading. Being two points ahead Birkirkara will be all-out to dash the Citizens' hopes and move five points clear with a win on Sunday. A win for the Stripes puts them just four matches away from their fifth title and the second consecutive one. On the other hand, a win for the Citizens would blow the title race wide open as they will take sole leadership with just one point ahead of the Stripes.

Birkirkara lost their last match against Hibernians with a solitary goal by Jackson Lima to see their five-point lead trimmed to just two points, and the match against Valletta should be the perfect opportunity for the Stripes to make a quick reaction.

On the other hand, Valletta are coming from a 3-1 victory over Balzan and for the Citizens nothing short of the three precious points, will satisfy them.

Ryan Scicluna is suspended for this match after collecting his fourth yellow, while Shola Shodiya and Nikola Vukanac are still doubtful if they will recover in time. On the other hand, the Citizens will have Yenz Cini doubtful after being ill in the last weeks, but they will be boosted by the return of Shaun Bajada and Ryan Fenech after they served a one match suspension in the last match.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:00. Transport will leave from the Infetti Training Centre at 14:30, and it will make a stop at Valley Road.

The MFA issued instructions that Birkirkara FC supporters are to approach the stadium via Mosta, and to park their vehicles in the West Parking (Enclosure side).

Come on the Stripes!
