Last Monday, Birkirkara FC Under-15's team rounded off an excellent season by winning the Knockout to register the double. Following this success, we talked to the team's captain Neil Micallef, and the vice-captain Gianluca Zammit.

Birkirkara had a season full of obstacles, but the Birkirkara players managed to show their brilliant attitude to not only reaches their target of winning the promotion but they also managed to win the title. The Stripes went on by writing history and won the double from Section B as last Monday they defeat Sliema Wanderers with a solitary goal by Gianluca Zammit.

“I describe this season as one of the best I had.” - was the first reaction of the team's captain, Neil Micallef. “We managed to win the double. The secret to this success was hard training and playing as a team. As a team we were like a family.”

“Like every player, I had my up and downs but I can describe my performances as satisfactory. In my opinion, the performance against Gozo was the best one this season”, referring to the first round match against Gozo, which the Stripes won 5-0.

The Birkirkara squad might be still on the ninth cloud following this year's success but Neil is not resting on his laurels. He said, “I am already looking forward for the next season. Next season will offer new challenges and new adventures, as I will have some new team mates. For sure, I am going to wear the beloved Birkirkara shirt in the coming years.”

Gianluca's first thoughts on this brilliant season were, “I think that this season was one of our best. At the beginning of the season we had two objectives to reach, and they were to win section B, and to win the knockout. When we won the double I said that we are the best team and we had a very good season together. This comes thanks to our coaches and the team spirit created by the group of players”.

Zammit believes that team-work was the key to success. “There were a lot of points that led to this success, but the main one was working for each other. Other attributes that led to this success were dedication, hard work and believe in ourselves.”

The Birkirkara forward was a constant torment to the opponents' defence throughout the season, but the youngster is seeking improvement in his performances. “I had some good performances this season, but I know that their is room for improvement and with hard work I can be better. On the other hand, I think that one of my best performances was my last game in the Knockout final against Sliema.”

Finally, Gianluca concluded by talking about his future, “I need to take it step by step and try to improve year by year. My main objective is to always do better and try to achieve higher objectives. My wish is to do well in my age groups, and that one day I will wear the Birkirkara FC senior team shirt.”
