Crunch test for Birkirkara

by Ayrton Galea - 18th April 2014

BOV Premier League leaders Birkirkara FC will be seeking to remain at the top of the table when on Saturday afternoon they will face Hibernians FC.

The Maltese Football spectators have their sights set on an exciting season finale, as title contenders Birkirkara and Valletta will have to battle-it out in the last league match played on Saturday 26 April. However, the Stripes first are billed with a tricky encounter against Hibernians, who have already sprung a surprise in the third round when they beat Birkirkara.

After beating Mosta to end their unbeaten run thanks to two goals in each half, last Sunday Birkirkara went on to trash Sliema Wanderers with an incredible 6-0 result, after scoring five goals in the first forty minutes.

The Paolites have managed to reach one of their main objectives for this season by securing a place in the UEFA competitions. However, their team-spirit, and the number of promising players make them a difficult opponent in every stage of the league. They will be seeking their first win in four matches after registering two draws, and then a defeat against Valletta in their last three outings.

Joseph Zerafa will be back for Birkirkara after serving a two match suspension. Hibernians also have no players suspended for this match.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 18:00. Transport for the match, by means of a double-decker bur, will leave from the Infetti Training Centre at 16:00.

Come on the Stripes!
