Rebecca Chircop on winning the Knockout

by Ayrton Galea - 17th May 2014

Rebecca Chircop scored the winning goal in the Women's Knockout 2013-2014, and the Birkirkara midfielder gave her comments to this website about winning the second most prestigious honour in Women's Football.

Still very emotional following the dramatic victory thanks to her goal, Rebecca said, “To score the winning goal in the Women's Knockout was the best thing to end this first season with Birkirkara FC. I could not believe that I had just scored when the ball hit the net and the biggest joy was to see that there was only four minutes remaining. We were almost there and together we did it!”

Rebecca moved from Mosta to Birkirkara last Summer, and she took little time to settle with her new squad and her experience was essential for the Stripes. Chircop, who played twenty matches throughout this season, proved to be one of the best signings for this season.

This match brought down the curtains on the 2013-2014 season. Rebecca said “We are very happy that we managed to seal the season with winning an honour. All of the players have worked hard, and thanks to our coaches and the committee that has always supported us, we had to show our appreciation by winning this cup.”

The Stripes were challenged to their limits in this competition, as Rebecca explained. “It wasn't easy to beat two strong teams like Mgarr United and Hibernians respectively after the disappointment of the league. However, thanks to each one of us we stayed positive and believed that the trophy will remain in our shelf, and it did.”

Finally, Rebecca concluded by saying, “I would like to dedicate this honour to our committee and coaches for the warm welcome that I received since joining this Club from day one and for always believing in my qualities, my team-mates for all the positive experiences and for all the courage they gave me throughout the last months. Last but not least, I would like to dedicate this honour to one special person that whatever happened, in good or bad moments, she was always there for me. Thank you for everything, one for all and all for one!”
