by Ayrton Galea - 17th August 2014

Rafael Ledesma has caught the eye of the Maltese football followers, ever since he joined our Club. Yesterday evening, he scored from a stunning volley, that paved the way for the first win in the BOV Premier League, and he was also named as the BOV Player of the match, and we talked with this Brazilian player about his adventure with our Club.

We are at the start of a new season but Ledesma has already left an impact. Serving Gonzaga the first goal in the BOV Super Cup, and then playing a key-role in the second goal in the same match has put a spotlight on his talents. He continued to impress when yesterday evening, he scored a gem of a goal to put Birkirkara in the lead.

Few foreigners come to our island and settle quickly, but the thirty-one year old striker said, “I feel great here. My adventure with Birkirkara FC is going very well. I mean, in all situations, things are going great, as a Club, as team-mates, technical staff and also as a country.

”I think, if you are a football player, you need to play your game everywhere, in every situation because you'll never change, only places will do.”

Having successful experiences in Belarus, Lithuania and recently in Cyprus, we asked Ledesma why he moved to Malta to join our Club. He said, “I decided to sign with this Club, because I knew that this is one of the top Clubs in Malta. I know that the Club has big ambitions, which match my ambitions.”

Yesterday, Birkirkara defeated Pieta Hotspurs in the BOV Premier League with a score of 2-1. When asked about the match Ledesma said, “Yesterday's game was an important one. Our target was to get the three points and we got them. For the first match of the league, in my opinion, we had a good game. We dominated for almost all the match and we could have won with a bigger score. However, we will get better game by game as time goes by.”

Have netted a superb strike that put Birkirkara in the lead, we could not resist asking Ledesma about his reactions about his first goal with our Club, “In my opinion, my goal was for sure one of the most beautiful goals in my football career”.

The Stripes are once again main contenders of the BOV Premier League, and Ledesma is hopeful of confirming the team's potential

We spoke with Ledesma about his targets for this season, and he said, “We are a Club of a nice recent history on this island. We need to improve to confirm that we are a big club here. We will be trying our best to reach the maximum success. My target is to help this Club to be successful and trying to win all trophies possible. I always fight and work to be a Champion, and its nothing different here.”

Ledesma concluded with a message to the Club's supporters. “Keep supporting our Club as your support is very important for us. We will always work to give you victories and make you happy.”
