'We all want to win the league' - Ellinton Morais

by Ayrton Galea - 14th September 2014

There was not much to be positive about in yesterday's 3-2 defeat to Balzan in the BOV Premier League but certainly the performance of Ellinton Morais once again left a very good impression. We spoke with the Brazilian forward about his post-match reaction and his adventure with our Club.

Ellinton joined our Club in the first week of August, and after making his debut in the BOV Super Cup against Valletta when he was included as a substitute, the twenty-four year old forward player became a regular choice for Mr. Paul Zammit.

Speed, technique and always a threat inside the box are some of the best characteristics of the Brazilian forward who is the Club's best scorer after the first four matches with four goals. He scored a goal each in the first two matches against Pieta Hotspurs and Zebbug Rangers before adding another two to his tally in yesterday's match.

This is the first adventure on our island for Ellinton and he told us the reason why he chose our Club. “I joined Birkirkara FC because I heard very good information about the club, staff and the country through my fellow team-mate Rafael Ledesma who used to play with me in Cyprus.”

The twenty-four year old was quick to leave a very good impression and he feels that he had already settled with our Club after the first month. “I feel settled here. Since I came I was welcomed by everybody and I feel more comfortable each day which helps me to show better football. Also, the country is a lovely one to live in.”

Yesterday evening, Birkirkara fell to their first defeat in the BOV Premier League. Despite not showing the best football, Ellinton believed that our squad deserved at least one point from the match. “I believe we could at least get a point, mainly because of our second half approach after they equalized. While we tried to attack and get the winning goal, they were satisfied with a draw.”

Morais' performance was certainly the most positive thing about yesterday's match and the Brazilian forward explained the reason of his brilliant performances. “I feel I adapted to my teammates and to the level of the league. I'm happy I had a good start and that is what I work for every day in the training sessions.”

Birkirkara are once again the main challengers of the BOV Premier League and Ellinton is aiming to win silverware with our Club. “My first personal target which I believe that is the same as club's target . We all want to win the league, we have a good team and of course we can challenge any team in the league. On the other hand, my second target is a personal target which I'm working to be the top scorer of this season.”

As Morais scored the second goal of the match, chants of his nickname ‘Liliou, Liliou' was started by the Birkirkara supporters, and Morais appreciated this gesture. “I appreciated very much when they chanted my name, it means that my work is being recognized even if we are still in the beginning. My message is that they shout, that they keep supporting, not only me, but all the players, in every game. They are important to us.”
