Stripes in a stern test against Tarxien

by Ayrton Galea - 2nd October 2014

Birkirkara FC raised the bar in the last two matches, but they will face a stern test this afternoon when they take on Tarxien Rainbows FC.

Birkirkara might be labelled as favourites to win this match, but Tarxien, who also rely on their attacking strength, have started their Premier League campaign on a satisfactory note.

The Stripes are currently in the second place, three points behind leaders Hibernians FC. Winning five out of six matches sends a signal that Birkirkara will once again be one of the main title-contenders. Following a 2-0 victory over Qormi, Birkirkara secured an important 2-0 win in the last match against Mosta.

Tarxien Rainbows strengthened their squad drastically, especially with their foreign players, after playing in the Relegation Pool last season. The Rainbows are currently at the sixth place. They fell for their first defeat in their last match, when Balzan emerged as winners with a late penalty kick. Before the match, they had obtained seven points thanks to one victory and four draws.

Tarxien will be without the services of Carlos Menedez Hevia who was suspended for three matches, while Birkirkara have no players suspended.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 18:00.

Come on the Stripes!
