Stripes and City clash in match of the week

by Ayrton Galea - 18th October 2014

Matches between Birkirkara and Valletta are rated as the most entertaining clashes in the Premier League, due to the rivalry between these two sides. The lack of consistency being shown by both teams certainly increases the intrigue of tomorrow's match.

Launching their season in style, Birkirkara captured the first honour of the season by beating Valletta with a 2-1 score to win the BOV Super Cup for their seventh time. However, their Premier League campaign has so far been a ‘hot and cold' one as inconsistency characterized their campaign.

The Stripes started their league commitments with three straight wins but two defeats in the last four matches have hindered their progress. After beating Pieta, Zebbug and Naxxar respectively for three straight wins, they lost to Balzan. Recovering by wins against Qormi and Mosta were not enough as in their last match, they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tarxien.

On the other hand, Champions and U*BET FA Trophy Winners Valletta have failed to reach their expectations in their early stage of the BOV Premier League. After losing the BOV Super Cup to Birkirkara, they succumbed to three defeats in their league campaign, including their surprising defeat to Pieta Hotspurs in their last outing.

During the break for international matches, Birkirkara reached a new agreement with Shola Shodiya, while Gareth Sciberras and Ryan Camenzuli are expected to be available for the match after recovering from injuries. On the other hand, Mr. Ivan Zammit is expected to be on the bench on the first time for Valletta after being appointed as the Club's technical director.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 17:00.

Come on the Stripes!
