Herrera about the match against Hibernians

by Ayrton Galea - 24th January 2015

Just hours before the top of the table clash against Hibernians, Edward Herrera shared his views about the much awaited match.

Edward said, “It is going to be another tough match but I believe that the only difference is that they have been more consistent and aggressive in front of goal. They are a very strong team and a single episode can decide the match, so we must concentrate throughout the 90 minutes. I believe we can win it.”

About the importance of this match, Herrera said, “If we don't beat Hibernians, I think the title race is almost definitely over, given that the season is going to be decided on three rounds this year. However, if we win, I believe that we will definitely be in the running again. However, all games carry three points and we must go on the pitch for every game with the same mentality and attitude.”

When asked about the preparations for this match, he said “Due to the FA Trophy match, we couldn't train normally during the week but we trained hard in the previous weeks to be well prepared for all 3 matches in advance.”

About the last match against Floriana, Edward said, “It was an important win that kick-started a very important week for us. We created a number of goal-scoring chances but we have to be more clinical in front of goal.”

Herrera might not have reached this year's expectations but on Sunday he gave a reminder about his true potential , and he told us, “I was very satisfied with my performance as I'd been working for a couple of weeks to regain my fitness after an annoying groin injury. I managed to put in a number of good crosses, two of which turned into assists and I felt confident intercepting passes in defence. I have been struggling with consistency and fitness this season but I hope that the Floriana performance will give me the strength and confidence I need to help the team with my displays.”

On another positive note, the Stripes reached the Quarter Finals of the FA Trophy. Herrera said, “The FA Trophy is definitely one of the main targets of the squad this year. Only 3 teams lie in our way and I'm optimistic that we can get our hands on the trophy, as we have a big-game team who knows how to put things together when it counts.”

Edward concluded with saying, “Thanks to all the supporters who are always behind the team following us through good moments and not-so-good moments. Hope to see you all at the ground today.”
