Stripes take on Mosta

by Ayrton Galea - 28th February 2015

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to consolidate their second place in the BOV Premier League, while keeping the pace with leaders Hibernians FC, when they take on Mosta FC on Sunday afternoon.

In their last match against Naxxar, The Stripes claimed the three points with a first-half goal by Edward Herrera. Thanks to this victory, Birkirkara climbed alone to the second place following Valletta's shock defeat to Zebbug, while the Stripes extended their unbeaten run in the league to eleven matches.

Laying eleven points under leaders Hibernians, who registered a comfortable victory over Zebbug Rangers on Saturday afternoon, all pressure is now on the Stripes, who have no choice but to win their match to keep their title hopes alive.

On the other hand, Mosta FC will be seeking to improve on their seventh place, as they are hoping to challenge for the fourth place, being four points under Floriana and Balzan.

The Blues have had three satisfactory matches in their last outings, as they held Hibernians in a 1-1 draw before they were narrowly defeated with a 2-1 score by Sliema Wanderers thanks to the latter's comeback. However, in their last match, they bounced back by holding top-four hopefuls Balzan in a 1-1 draw.

In the first two rounds, Birkirkara emerged as winners. In the first-round match, two goals by Brazilian-duo Gonzaga and Morais gave them a 2-0 win. The Stripes were too strong for Mosta in the second-round match and they registered a 5-1 win, thanks to a brace by Shodiya and a goal each by Ledesma, Morais and Fenech.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.

Come on the Stripes!
