Knockout Holders to face Mgarr United

by Ayrton Galea - 2nd March 2015

Last season Women's Knockout winners, Birkirkara FC, will be seeking to book their place into this season's semi-finals, when they face Mgarr United FC on Tuesday evening.

Still fresh in Birkirkara's minds is the 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Greens, which cost them the leadership of the Women's League, and they will go for this match with all guns blazing seeking a sportive revenge. For the Stripes, this was their last defeat in the league as they recovered with two victories and a 1-1 draw in the top of the table clash against Hibernians.

On the other hand, buoyed by their last victory over the Stripes, Mgarr should have a psychological boost coming for this match. After defeating Birkirkara, they went on to beat Pembroke Athleta with a 4-0 score, but then lost to Raiders and Hibernians in their last two outings and they are now occupying the fourth place in the Women's League.

The last time that these two teams met in this competition was in the Semi-Finals of last season where the Stripes registered a 2-0 victory thanks to a goal in each half by Gabriella Zahra and Raina Giusti. The Stripes won the competition after defeating Hibernians in the final, with a score of 2-1 score, thanks to a late two-goal comeback by Rachel Cuchieri and Rebecca Chircop.

The match will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.

We would like to encourage you to come and support the Women's Team.

Come on the Stripes!
