Stripes wary of Wanderers threat

Birkirkara FC will be aiming to make it three wins in a row to consolidate their second place in the BOV Premier Premier League, when on Saturday afternoon they take on a struggling Sliema Wanderers FC.
Back-to-back victories in the opening two matches of the third round of this league campaign, after three consecutive draws, put the Stripes in the second place, and they are the only serious challengers to Hibernians for the title.
Heading to the third round commitments with morale sky high after booking their place in the Semi-Final of the Malta FA Trophy, the Stripes continued to step-up their performances. They registered two important victories in the opening two matches of the third round, beating Naxxar Lions with a 1-0 score and Mosta with a comfortable 3-0 score in the last match, and they will be seeking to continue building on their form.
On the other hand, Sliema Wanderers will be heading for tomorrow's match knowing that only three points will keep them in the race for the fourth place, despite laying three points under joined fourth-placed duo Balzan and Floriana.
Sliema also enjoyed a positive start to this third round, with two victories over Mosta and Tarxien Rainbows. However in the last match, they failed to turn their superiority into goals as they conceded a late goal to drop two precious points in a 1-1 draw against Pieta Hotspurs.
Sliema Wanderers'Djumo Bocar is suspended for this match after collecting his fourth yellow card.
The Stripes registered a 1-0 victory in the first-round match, but a goal by Trevor Cilia cost them two precious points in the second round as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:15.
