Women's Team seek to stay in title hunt

by Ayrton Galea - 14th April 2015

The BOV Women's League will return this evening and Birkirkara will be seeking to keep the pressure on leaders Hibernians when they take on Pembroke Athleta.

With just four matches to go, the Stripes will be all-out to keep their winning streak, as only a win will keep them in the title hunt. They currently lie three points under leaders Hibernians, who this evening are also expected to face a tough challenge from third-place ambitious Raiders.

Following the surprising defeat against Mgarr, the Stripes recovered brilliantly by beating Raiders with a late-strike and kept their hopes alive, when despite having two players ruled-out injured, they held Hibernians in a 1-1 draw. In their last match, against Mgarr, they struggled much more than expected, but a goal by Raina Giusti four minutes from time gave them a crucial victory.

On the other hand, Pembroke will be seeking to maintain their fifth place position as they are three points ahead of Kirkop United. They are coming six consecutive defeats, after they were awarded a 3-0 victory after lodging a protest in the match against Birkirkara, after the latter had beaten them 2-0. Two weeks later The Stripes trashed them with a 5-0 score.

The match will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.

We would like to encourage you to come and support the Women's Team.

Come on the Stripes!
