Birkirkara FC Under-15's Team shared the spoils in a goal-less draw against Hibernians in the top of the table clash. With this result, Birkirkara stay in the second place, one point under the same Hibernians, but the Stripes have a game in hand.

It was a balanced encounter that clashed the elite teams of the top division in the Under-15's Section. The Stripes were superior in the first half when they created a host of scoring chances while in the second half, Hibernians enjoyed a slight edge over their opponents.

The First Half

Both teams had their scoring chances in the first half. Hibernians had a long-distance free-kick ending wide. The Stripes should have surged ahead two minutes later but they squandered away a golden opportunity. It was another set-piece, this time on the other side of the pitch that found Ayrton Attard beating the offside trap but failing to hit the target all alone in-front of the goalkeeper.

Hibernians replied brilliantly on the twenty-seventhminute as a short clearance saw the ball rolling in the path of the Paolites forward, but his shot was crucially blocked by a defender. Two minutes later, the Paolites threatened again when following a fine build-up, a shot from inside the box from an ideal position ended over.

The first half ended in a goal-less draw.

The Second Half

The opening stages of the second half proved to be a more balanced affair. Both teams were being very cautious at the back and both goalkeepers were hardly tested.

The Stripes created the first scoring opportunity of the second half when on the fifty-first minute, Ayrton Attard's cross found Ryan Tonna who was unlucky to see his pin-point pass to his fellow team-mate inside the box blocked, before being cleared into safety.

Hibernians reacted and they went close with two attempts. Twenty minutes into the second half the Hibernians forward made some fine foot-work but his shot from inside the box was parried by goalkeeper Clyde Aquilina. Two minutes later, the same goalkeeper rushed out to deny the striker from shooting.

The Stripes could have notched the winner just before the full-time whistle, when Ryan Tonna profited from a defensive blunder but his shot scratched past the far post, much to the disappointment of the Stripes' clan. Moments later the full-time whistle found both sides taking a point each.

BIRKIRKARA: Clyde Aquilina, Miguel Amato, Ayrton Attard, Braden Calleja, Romario Camilleri, Karl Caruana, Nicholas Farrugia, Zak Grech, Kyle Mifsud, Ryan Tonna, Carlo Zammit Lonardelli.
