Birkirkara FC Under-17's Team registered an important win against Cottonera United FC, in the APS Bank Under-17's League Section B last Sunday, with a 2-1 result.

Two defeats and two draws in their last four outings put some pressure on the Stripes, as they slid downwards in the league table, thanks to Sunday's win, they moved to safer waters as they climbed to the sixth place in the standings.

The First Half

Birkirkara opened the score after an excellent move on the seventeenth minute. Ryan Muscat passed the ball to Liam Reno Gatt, and after a fine run he dribbled past his direct marker, and his cross found Owen Cauchi, whose shot finished behind Cottonera's custodian.

The Stripes remained the better side and they made them two on the thirty-second minute. Fabien Lufi picked Owen Cauchi inside the area, and the Birkirkara offensive midfielder shot past Cottonera's goalkeeper.

The end of the first half found the Stripes leading by two, thanks to Cauchi's brace.

The Second Half

Cottonera managed to reduce the gap fifteen minutes into the second half. A free-kick was blocked by goalkeeper Emanuel Galea, and from the rebound, the Cottonera forward slotted into the net.

Cottonera could have equalised on the sixty-eighth minute, after their forward pushed Jordan Sciberras out of the way, and this was unnoticed by the referee, but his shot finished wide.

Two minutes from time, Ryan Muscat passed the ball to Gianluca Zammit, but after he dribbled past the Cottonera's custodian, his shot was cleared by a Cottonera defender. The Stripes held on till the final whistle, to take an important win.
