'I felt goose-bumps like every Birkirkara supporter' - Paul Fenech

by Ayrton Galea - 20th May 2015

Paul Fenech will treasure last Saturday's match winning goal as one of the most important goals in his career with our Club. This defining goal came in the same week that he extended his contract which with our Club, which he considers as his second family. He said this in an interview in the build-up for this Saturday's final against Hibernians.

Paul told us “There is not a lot I can say about my goal - it will remain in my heart and my mind for the rest of my life. I remained calm because I knew that there was ten minutes left till the end of the game. When I scored the goal, I felt goose-bumps, like every Birkirkara supporter.”

Many recognized Birkirkara's superiority for long stretches throughout the last match and Fenech shared the same opinion. He said, “From a one hundred and twenty minute match, I believe that we were superior for more than eighty minutes. Valletta had their chances but we controlled the match very well, and we created much more scoring opportunities than they did.”

Paul Fenech brought to an end all the rumours suggesting that he will leave the Club by signing a new contract much to the delight of the Stripes faithful. He explained, “These eighth years with Birkirkara FC, were a successful eighth years. I won every honour that Maltese football has to offer, and many individual honours as well.

“The messages I received from the Birkirkara supporters were very emotional through Facebook and other personal messages. I couldn't lose this respect. Everyone is subject for mistakes and the problems I had were sorted by talking them over. After everything was sorted out, I put all the other clubs' offers at a side and decided to sign for my second family - Birkirkara FC”

Paul concluded this interview by saying, “Regarding this Saturday's final, I wish that the players will cancel out the disappointments that we had throughout the league, by going to this match aggressive and concentrated throughout the match.

“I wish that this Saturday, everyone forming part of Birkirkara will unite and decorate the National Stadium while wearing the Birkirkara FC shirt. It won't be an easy game after Hibernians dominated the league. Your support was very important in the last match against Hibernians, so you can imagine how more helpful is for us next Saturday. Forza Birkirkara!”
