'We believe a lot in our quality' Coach Paul Zammit

Birkirkara FC's Head Coach Paul Zammit emphasised in his belief in the quality of the team for next Saturday's FA Trophy Final against Hibernians. He said this during an MFA Press Conference held today in the build-up to the match.

Paul Zammit said, “We know that we are going to meet a strong squad but we believe a lot in our quality. We showed it last Saturday against Valletta, and we shall take the positive from that match into next Saturday's match.”

“The reality is that this match will bring together two teams with different fortunes. Hibernians have been building on their base and this year their signings and consistency were the keys to their victory. They have a strong squad and technical team, and they have a lot of backing from the Club. I give credit to them for making all this possible.

“On the other hand, we started the season with several different players but we won the BOV Super Cup in the beginning of the season. In the league, we lacked consistency despite showing potential. In reality, we were the most team that was closest to Hibernians in the direct matches. This isn't important for next Saturday's match but certainly indicates a balanced encounter. I am hoping for a performance in which we make everything possible in this game.”

Team's captain Paul Fenech also shared his views about this match. “All of our games against each other were balanced. I believe that in some games, especially the last game, we were the better side. However, Hibernians were consistent throughout the whole league campaign.

“Following what can be called a disappointment in the league campaign, I still believe that we deserved to advance for this Saturday's final. This match means a lot for Birkirkara FC. We opened the season by winning an honour, the Super Cup, and we hope to end it with another honour, the FA Trophy.”

The Birkirkara Captain was also asked about his decision to stay with Club following speculations about him leaving at the end of the season. “To be honest, it wasn't an easy experience but I believe I made the right decision. I put everything aside, I spoke to the persons closest to me, my family, and I took the decision.

“I believe I was awarded for this right decision by the playing time that the Coach gave me in the last match. When I scored, I don't know what I felt but it was the feeling of a supporter, a feeling like every Birkirkara supporter felt after the goal.”

Coach Paul Zammit said “I can tell you that in no way and in no method is the administration putting pressure on u. Indeed, they have been closer to us and this is very important.

“Coaching or playing for top clubs like Birkirkara FC puts you in a hot seat but you have to know how to deal with it. For big clubs, honours mean almost everything, and we are mature enough to understand that for this Club, the FA Trophy is very important.”

He concluded by saying “Birkirkara have numerous supporters with a big heart and we found a lot of backing from them. I was fascinated by the backing they also gave to me personally. They are not putting pressure on us, but they are showing that they are with us in this situation.”
