Stripes, City seek a morale boost

by Ayrton Galea - 29th September 2016

Birkirkara FC will be striving to put this week's upset behind them and return to winning ways in the BOV Premier League when this evening they face their archrivals Valletta FC.

It has been a difficult past week for the Stripes and the Citizens, who are both coming from a defeat, but the two teams will be seeking to make amends when they go head-to-head in this week's match.

The Stripes suffered a surprising defeat to Sliema Wanderers, but they recovered well with a 2-0 victory over Mosta. However, last Monday they suffered another unexpected defeated when they were beaten by Pembroke.

On the other hand, Valletta only collected a point from their last three outings. Their 2-0 lead at half-time was squandered, to only get a 2-2 draw against Balzan, while they suffered back to back defeats against Floriana and Hibernians.

Coach Drazen Besek will have Christian Bubalovic still doubtful for today's match, but otherwise he has no injuries problems. On the other hand, Valletta's coach Paul Zammit will have to do without Leandro Aguirre and Uchenna Umeh who are both suspended.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and will kick off at 20:00.

Come on the Stripes!
