Stripes aim third straight win as they take on Wanderers

by Ayrton Galea - 16th March 2017

Birkirkara FC will be aiming for their third consecutive win in the BOV Premier League, when on Saturday afternoon they will take on Sliema Wanderers FC.

Back-to-back wins against Tarxien Rainbows and Hamrun Spartans have lifted the Stripes to the fourth placed, as they leap-frogged Floriana last weekend. The Stripes gave out one of the most solid performances when they beat Hamrun Spartans with a 3-0 score.

The Stripes are still trailing six points under third-placed Valletta and they will be seeking to register the first victory over Sliema Wanderers, after the latter emerged as winners with an identical 2-1 score in the previous two rounds.

The Wanderers returned to winning ways after six matches, when they defeated Gzira United with a late goal for a narrow 1-0 victory last weekend. They are occupying the sixth placed with thirty-four points, five points over Tarxien Rainbows and nine over Hamrun Spartans and St. Andrew's respectively.

Coach Nikola Jaros will be unable to field his best formation as striker Gonzalo Malan is suspended, following picking his fourth yellow card in the last match. On the plus side, Predrag Jovic returns from a one-match suspension.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 16:00. Transport for the match is available and it will leave Valley Road at 15:00.

Come on the Stripes!
