'Be our 12th player' - Mariah Sciberras

by Ayrton Galea - 27th March 2017

Promising defender Mariah Sciberras revealed that she can't wait for tomorrow's match and has encouraged all the supporters to be the twelfth player by supporting the team, as the Women's Team will be seeking to be mathematically champions. The Stripes need three points to make sure of the title.

Mariah is one of the youngest players in the team, but at the age of seventeen years old, she has won a regular place with our team. The left-back has made fourteen appearances during this league campaign.

Despite your young age, you have established yourself as a regular player with our team. What are your comments on being a regular player with a club like Birkirkara?

It has always been a dream to play with a club like Birkirkara. I have worked hard since day one I stepped on the field. I started the season on the bench but worked my way up and proved that my place was to be on the field. Besides working hard, I have to give credit to my teammates who always pushed me to improve.

From an offensive role with the Under-16's Team to a defensive role with the Senior Team. How difficult was it to adopt to this new role?

I wouldn't say it was easy for me but I was already used to play in a defensive role before so it was a little simpler for me to get used to this position.

The team registered fifteen consecutive victories. What has been the secret for consistency?

We have fought for the place we are in now since the beginning of the season. This was only possible by training every week, showing great teamwork and building a strong bond between us and I believe that this helped us a great lot this year.

We have the best defence in the league, with four goals conceded in sixteen matches. Does this have any significance to you, considering you're part of the defence?

I believe that everyone is responsible for the results we get from the players to the coach, everyone can make a mistake and we get a goal from it, so it doesn't only come from the defence but the entire team.

The team marched on with a fine victory over Mgarr United last week. What are your comments about this match?

Like any other match we went in the pitch to play a final. We fought hard for a 3-1 victory and proved that we deserve to be in the place we are now, on the top of the table.

Kirkop United have been a hard nut to crack this season. What are your comments on Tuesday's match and how are you preparing for this match?

As I have already mentioned we playing each match like a final and we are going for this match to win it and nothing else. We will fight for what we believe we deserve. We're going to train and sweat our blood out on the pitch like we do every game.

We are one win away from winning the title? How much are you looking forward to this match?

For me personally this would be a great experience. Having been regular player in the starting-eleven and winning my first title is amazing at such a young age, so I'm very looking forward for the this match.

What is your message to the supporters to come and support you next Tuesday?

As always, we encourage anyone who can make it, to come and give us their support. Be our 12th player on the pitch.
