Birkirkara FC Under-17's Team reached the Under-17's Knockout on Sunday afternoon, when they defeated San Gwann FC with a narrow 1-0 score.

The Stripes went out better, and mid-way through the first-half, they surged ahead after Ayrton Attard's corner kick was deflected by the San Gwann defender into his own net.

Boosted by the opening goal, the Stripes stepped-up their tempo and went close with several scoring chances, particularly by Attard who had his efforts neutralised by goalkeeper Jake Pisani. In another good scoring chance, Paul Mbong's header smashed against the crossbar.

Birkirkara kicked off the second half on the attack and Mbong was denied by the post again as his left-footed strike hit the foot of the post. On the other side of the pitch, goalkeeper Amara Sylla produced a fine save on Ian Caruana's effort in one of the best scoring chances for San Gwann.

In the late stages of the match, the Stripes went close to seal the issue. Jean Paul Baldacchino's effort went wide while Mbong's shot was blocked by the goalkeeper. Ayrton Attard's curling shot rattled the crossbar at death as the score remained unchanged.

The Stripes will face Balzan in the final of the Under-17's Knockout. The match will be played on Sunday, 30 April at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and it will kick off at 09:00.
