Rivals Birkirkara and Valletta go head to head

by Ayrton Galea - 15th April 2017

Birkirkara FC and Valletta FC will go head to head this evening in the match of the week of the BOV Premier League, where both teams will be aspiring the make a significant step towards a place in qualifying for European football.

The Stripes will be seeking to continue building on their fine form and continue their comeback to end up in the first three places of the league, that will see them earning an automatic spot in European football.

Birkirkara have all the right reasons to go to this match with high spirits, as they are coming from a run of three consecutive victories. They produced one of the best performances this season to walk-away as deserved winners with a 3-1 score in their direct clash against Balzan.

Their task is anything than accomplished yet, as despite this good form, the Stripes are still laying in the fourth place but they have narrowed the gap to three points with Balzan and four to Valletta, who dropped precious points against Gzira United last Saturday.

The Citizens who trail five points under Hibernians, following their impressive last-gasp comeback against Hibernians, had a roller-coaster ride of results in space of six days. They shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Floiana and went on beating Hibernians in mid-week. However, they were held in another 1-1 draw last weekend, this time against Gzira United.

Coach Nikola Jaros will have playmaker Miguel Alba doubtful for the match, after the latter suffered an injury. On the other hand, Steve Borg and Claudio Pani are suspended for Valletta.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 18:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 16:30.

Come on the Stripes!
