Champions Birkirkara FC started their BOV Women's League defence with a fine 3-0 victory over Raiders FC on Tuesday evening.

The Stripes dictated matters for long stretches but they had to wait till the last action of the first-half to break Raiders' resilience. Birkirkara were efficient to make sure of the three points as they scored two goals in the first ten minutes of the second half to wrap-up their first victory.

Alishia Sultana gave the Stripes an important lead before the end of the first half, before Raina Giusti confirmed her brilliant start by notching a brace in space of ten minutes inside the second half, after last week's stunning effort which handed the Stripes the BOV Women's Super Cup.

The Stripes will take on Mgarr United FC in the next match on Tuesday, 17 October. The match will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium and it will kick off at 20:15.
