Ayrton Attard: I'm honoured to play for Birkirkara FC

by Ayrton Galea - 22nd January 2018

Under-19's Team promising forward, Ayrton Attard, describes his time playing with the Senior Team as an amazing experience, after growing up supporting the team from the stands. He feels very honoured that he has the opportunity to give the supporters something back.

Attard is described as one of the best up-and-coming forwards on our island. Last year he was the U17 team's top-scorer, and he was one of the key-players that led the Under-17's Team to winning the Knock-Out competition, and this summer he was voted as the Under-17's Most Promising Player.

In his first year with the Under-19's Team, Attard is establishing himself as an important player, and his hard-work was recognised with the Senior Team debut in the 1-0 defeat against Hibernians FC, played on the 18 November 2017.

“I was very happy that I was called to be a substitute in the game against the champions Hibernians FC. The result didn't come our way, but I was honoured that I made my debut with my hometown Club at the age of just seventeen years old.

“It was a dream come true. I grew up watching every match of Birkirkara FC from the stands, so it was amazing. It shows the trust that Coach Mr. Paul Zammit has in young players and I'm honoured that I was the first Youth Academy player to play with the Senior Team following an absence of a few years.”

Ayrton said, “I'm very honoured to play for Birkirkara FC, after all these years supporting this glorious club. Birkirkara means a lot to me, because I know how much the supporters feel about this club, and now I have the chance to give them something back.”

About the Under-19's League campaign he said, “So far it has been quite positive. We ended the first-round in the second place but there is still a long way to go. For this club, trophies are very important, so we are going to fight till the end to bring any possible silverware to the club.”

Attard signed off this interview by talking about his future. “My aspirations for the future are to keep being chosen by the Senior Team, and for that to happen, I need to keep performing with the Under-19's Team while I aspire to stay in the squad of the National Team. The National Team is very important, and I love representing my country.”
