Super performance by Birkirkara FC
by Matthaeus Grasso - 26th January 2009In a very satisfying performance by Birkirkara FC, particularly by goalkeeper Bernard Paris, our team has managed to keep Champions Valletta to a 1-1 draw, with both sides having more than one opportunity to score more.
Birkirkara started the match on the offensive, but it was Valletta who took an early lead through Cleaven Frendo as his powerful shot managed to beat Paris. This was by no means enough to stop the brave Birkirkara Ultras and supporters who turned out in numbers to support our beloved team..
A few minutes later, Birkirkara had the perfect opportunity to draw level, as Trevor Cilia skipped past goalkeeper Andrew Hogg, only to blast his shot against the post..
The first half ended 1-0 for Valletta, with Birkirkara being the better side.
The second half started with a big bang, as 'The Stripes' drew level after just four mintes. It was an Alan Tabone freekick which was dealt with very badly by the opposing defence, with the ball ending up in Sean Bajada's feet, with the Gozitan elegantly back-heeling the ball towards the bottom right-corner of Hogg's goal.... The Birkirkara fans were now in total delirium..
Our side kept dominating the play, but it was the opponents who went closer to grabbing the victory, but goalkeeper Bernard Paris was in no mood to concede more goals, as he managed to put-off a number of splendid saves.
The Valletta players were clearly frustrated by this result, as they kept fouling our players constantly and rather too aggressively.
Anton Zammit's full-time whistle found the Birkirkara fans applauding the squad for their wonderful performance, and for the positive result that they managed to achieve.
