Interview with Luke Montebello
by Ayrton Galea - 30th March 2012This week's interview could be described as a different one from usual, as this week we interviewed Luke Montebello, the former Birkirkara striker who last July joined As Livorno Calcio on a two year contract.
With Luke we talked about how it all started, how his adventure is going and his aspirations, amongst other things.
Who is Luke Montebello?
My name is Luke Montebello. I'm 16 years old and I'm an outgoing person.
How do you spend your regular day?
At 10.30 I wake up for breakfast and at 12.30 I go to the hotel to have lunch. Then at about 14.15 for some gym-work before training and at 15.00 we start training and finish at 17.15. After training, I go back home to have dinner and than I spend the rest of the night playing with my PlayStation and relaxing.
How do you spend your weekends?
Saturdays, relaxing and start mentally preparing for the game. Sundays if we are playing away, I wake up early for a good breakfast and head the stadium to leave for our destination were we stop for two hours before game and half a light lunch and than we head to the stadium to prepare for the game. When we are playing at home I wake up for breakfast and at 12.00 I go for lunch and than they come pick me up to for the game.
What are your main hobbies besides football?
I like watching boxing and playing on the PlayStation.
What kind of music do you like?
I like listening to modern music.
What is your favourite food?
I like everything but pasta is my favourite dish.
Do you follow international football? If yes, which is your favourite nation when it comes to football, and which is your favourite foreign Club?
When it comes to national football I side with Portugal but when it comes to club level I support Manchester United
Who is your favourite player?
My idols are Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic , I like their style of play
How is your adventure in Livorno going? Can you tell us when you played your first and last match with the team, and how are you feeling there?
I played my first game on the 15th of January, because I had some problems with FIFA's go ahead and it was against Novara. My last game was versus Parma last Sunday.
Can you tell us how does this opportunity to move to Livorno started?
On the initiative of M.F.A , scouts from As Livorno Calcio, Empoli, Bologna and a FIFA licensed Agent came to scout our national games against Albania & Hibernians U/17. I left a good impression and was contacted to have a 2 day trial with As Livorno Calcio. My trial went well, and by the end of July I had signed a 2 year contract.
What has changed in your life?
Now I'm living more independently.
What are the differences between football in Malta and football in Italy?
The tempo here is so much higher.
Do you consider language as one of the difficulties you are finding?
At the beginning, yes, it was a bit of a problem but now I have learned a lot.
How is your relationship with your team mates?
My relationship with my team mates is very good.
Do you miss your moments with our Club?
Yes, I miss those moments but I want to sacrifice my self for my future.
Who is the most player that you miss?
I miss all my team mates.
Do you still follow Birkirkara FC?
Yes, I still follow Birkirkara's every game.
How different is the training schedule and routine?
It's different because it's more difficult and intensive.
Are you still studying?
No, right now I'm only focusing on football.
Do you ever feel home-sick?
No, I never felt home-sick.
Do you think we will be seeing you wear our beloved shirt ever again?
It would be an honour to play again for Birkirkara, but I'm more focusing to stay playing abroad.
Do you have any message for your ex team-mates, supporters, and all those back home?
I would like to thank everybody who has helped me and was there for me, and I wish them all the luck for the future.
