Stripes in a tricky contest against depleted Sliema
by Ayrton Galea - 12th April 2014Champions Birkirkara FC will be seeking to continue on their route to winning back-to-back titles when on Sunday evening they will face the depleted side of Sliema Wanderers FC.
Two points clear, with just three matches to go, Birkirkara's momentum took another boost last Sunday. In what was expected to be a tight match, the present BOV Premier League leaders demolished the helpless side of Mosta, with two goals in each half.
Birkirkara's chances of grabbing the three points from tomorrow's match increased significantly, when last Wednesday the Malta Football Association announced that Sliema Wanderers will be having another three players suspended, besides Admir Vladavic ,who was sent off in the match against Valletta, and was handed a two-match ban.
However, the tactical discipline that the Wanderers show under the guidance of Mr. Alfonso Greco will certainly keep the Stripes on their toss, as any loss of points in this deadly of this stage could prove fatal.
Birkirkara are coming from two straight victories over Balzan and Mosta respectively. For the Wanderers, only a win will do, in order to keep their hopes alive of participating in next season's UEFA Europa League. The Wanderers are still searching for the first win in six matches.
Joseph Zerafa will be serving his second match suspended and he is, therefore, ruled out for the Stripes. On the other hand, Sliema Wanderers will be having Admir Vladavic, Clifford Gatt Baldaccinho, Beppe Muscat and Paltemio Barbetti all suspended.
Following a 1-1 draw in the first round, the Stripes emerged as winners in the second and third round matches with an identical 3-1 score.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00. Transport from the Infetti Training Centre and it will leave at 16:30.
Come on the Stripes!
