Stripes to face Lions
by Ayrton Galea - 6th December 2014The Stripes have enjoyed a very positive week and on Sunday they will seek to continue lifting their spirits when they take on Naxxar Lions FC.
There were tense weeks at Birkirkara following three defeats in four outings, but last Sunday, they raised their standards to produce a determined second-half performance to return to winning ways and defeat bottom-placed, Zebbug Rangers with a 3-1 score.
Following the BOV Premier League's victory, the Stripes had another boost last Wednesday when in a one-sided match, they defeated second division side, Hamrun Spartans, with a very comfortable 7-1 result, with the team's top scorer notching a hat-trick in the first twenty minutes.
On the other hand, Naxxar Lions seem to have finally found their feet in the BOV Premier League following a very shaky start. However, under the new guidance of former Valletta FC and Balzan FC Head Coach, Mr. Jesmond Zerafa, the Lions have lifted their performance.
They are enjoying a four-match unbeaten strike, thanks to beating Pieta Hotspurs, Sliema Wanderers 1-0, drawing 1-1 with Qormi, and then defeating Balzan FC with a 3-1 score. However, last Tuesday, they were surprisingly eliminated by the first division side of Melita FC with a 2-1 score to exit from the Malta FA Trophy at an early third round stage.
In the first round match, it was a goal three minutes on added time by Paul Fenech that handed the Stripes the three precious points thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory.
The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.
Come on the Stripes!
