Birkirkara defeat Malta Under-21's National Team in a friendly match

Birkirkara FC defeated the Malta National Under-21's Team with a 1-0 score thanks to a penalty converted by Nassir Maachi in a friendly match played at the Ta' Qali Training Grounds on Saturday afternoon.

In a friendly match, played on three sessions of thirty-minutes each, Birkirkara were involved in a friendly match to keep their match practice while give more chance to their Youth Academy's players. Seven from the fifteen players used were Birkirkara FC Youth Academy products, with the oldest one being Ryan Scicluna at twenty-two years, while Kurt Zammit was the youngest at eighteen years old.

The Stripes were without Justin Haber, Paul Fenech, Rowen Muscat and Ryan Camenzuli who were all involved with the National Team while Ellinton Morais, Gareth Sciberras, Joseph Zerafa, Rafael Ledesma and Shola Shodiya were all missing as they are recovering from different injuries.

This prompted the Birkirkara Head Coach to call for the first time with the Senior team Clint Zammit and Luke Cassar, who form part of the Under-19's Team. Beppe Jaccarini and Dylan Aquilina who also form part of the Under-19's Team were also included in the squad.

Mirza Hamzabegovic made his first appearance and he had a very solid outing. Mazzetti and Vukanac once again were strong at the back while side-backs youngsters Dylan Aquilina and Beppe Jaccarini had a positive match. Other Under-19's Team player Clint Zammit and Luke Cassar also left a good impression.

First Session

The Stripes started the first session following with this selection - Mirza Hamzabegovic, Beppe Jaccarini, Nikola Vukanac (Capt), Mauricio Mazzetti, Dylan Aquilina, Ryan Scicluna, Matheus Bissi, Edmond Agius, Edward Herrera, Nassir Maachi, Antoine Borg.

Second Session

In the second session Ini Akpan, Clint Zammit and Luke Cassar took the field instead of Mirza Hamzabegovic, Beppe Jaccarini and Dylan Aquilina. The Stripes surged ahead four minutes into the second session thanks to a penalty converted by Nassir Maachi.

Third Session

In the third session Mirza Hamzabegovic, Beppe Jaccarini and Dylan Aquilina took the field instead of Ini Akpan, Luke Cassar and Clint Zammit. Kurt Zammit, who played the second session for Malta Under-21's Team came in for Antoine Borg. At the last fifteen minutes of the game Antoine Borg came back in, to replace Ryan Scicluna.
