Matthew Guillaumier joins Birkirkara FC

by Ivan Mizzi - 11th January 2016

Birkirkara FC made their fourth signing in this January Transfer Window, when National Under-19's Team player Matthew Guillaumier signed a four and a half year contract. The signing of Guillaumier is a clear message of the Club's continued interest in promising Maltese youngsters.

The Club made a major investment in one of Malta's best talents as it signed seventeen-year old midfielder Guillaumier. He has been playing with St. Andrew's since he was five years of age. His promising abilities were to the extent that aged only 15 years and 17 days, he made his First Division debut against Gudja in April 2013.

His international level playing skills paid off in the last overseas international match against Wales, when as part of the 1997 squad, he scored Malta's first goal in the away game and Malta went on to beat Wales with a 3-2 score. In September 2013, he moved to the Youth Academy of Empoli.

Matthew has been one of the best players with St. Andrew's this season and he was a regular player, making sixteen appearances, in which he started fifteen matches and was included as a substitute once. He scored two goals in the victory against Swieqi in the FA Trophy.

We would like to welcome Matthew while wishing him all the best of luck in his adventure with our Club.
