Interview with Goran Mujanovic
by Ayrton Galea - 11th February 2016Goran Mujanovic is another foreign player that joined our Club during this January Transfer Market. Mujanovic made his debut in the 1-0 victory in the Quarter Final of the FA Trophy against Valetta where he had an excellent match, playing at an unusual right-back position. So far, he played five matches and scored one goal. We interviewed him, to get to know him a little better.
Who is Goran Mujanovic?
I am thirty-two years old. I am married, and I have a son and a daughter, and I consider myself as peaceful and a hard-worker.
What are your hobbies?
Besides football, my main hobby is tennis.
What is your philosophy in life?
'Set a target in your life, believe in yourself and work hard to achieve it'.
How did you start playing football?
I started playing football because of my father. He played football and I used to go with him to training and to his matches.
Can you tell us a bit about your experiences before joining our Club?
I started playing football with my hometown Club NK Varteks where I made it through all the ranks to the Senior Team. In 2002, I signed my first professional contract and went on a one-year loan to the first division club, NK Pomorac. Following this loan, I went back to Varteks where I played three seasons with them.
Following my spell with Varteks, I joined SK Lierse from Belgium and I stayed two years before moving back to Varteks and spent another three years. Then I joined Slaven Belupo and spent another two successful years, before moving to NK Rijeka where I also spent two years.
With NK Rijeka, I played in the group-stage of the UEFA Europa League and I also won the Croatian Super Cup in 2014. Following Rijeka, I moved to Kuwait to join Al Nasr Sporting Club and now I am here, with Birkirkara FC. I also played for the Croatian National Team from Under-14 to Under-21.
Did you ever imagine you would be playing in Malta? What is your impression of Malta?
No, I didn't, but in football you never know! I was in Malta for the first time in 2005 with the National Team and I liked it very much. Now I am here and I consider Malta as a very nice island. I feel very good here.
Why did you join our Club?
I received the offer to play here and I accepted, because Birkirkara FC is a professional and serious Club, who is always at the top places in Maltese football and always take part in European competitions.
Following the third week with our Club, how are you feeling? Have you settled in?
I feel very good here. The people in the Club are very nice and along-side the players, they all made me feel very welcome here. Yes, I can say that I'm settled here.
Did you find any particular differences between your previous experiences and playing in Malta?
No, not so much, except for training on artificial grass.
You have played in both the right-back and the right-wing position. How do you describe your abilities in each position? Which one is your favourite? Have you ever played in a different role besides these two?
I prefer playing on the right-wing and I believe that I perform the best in that position. However, I try my best in each and every position that the Coach puts me.
How do you rate your performances so far? Is the best of you yet to come?
I am happy because I played all five games here, but my last two weren't so good. I must be much better and I will do my best to put my performances on a top level. I am just a bit more than three weeks in this Club, which has a lot of new players, and we need to settle more in general as a squad. I am 100% sure that with all the players that we have. and together with our Coach, we can perform well, and achieve good results.
We went through a disappointing week. Following a goal-less draw against Floriana, we were defeated by Balzan. What are your comments?
We played very bad, but that's football, you have a good game and then somehow you are bad in the next one. We must be better and look forward to win the next match.
How important is Sunday's match against Hibernians?
For me, even a friendly match is important. I think it will be a very difficult match and we must do everything to win this match.
Do you believe the Club will reach its targets this season?
We still have a lot of games to play. There are twelve leagues matches remaining, that carry a lot of points, and we also have the FA Trophy. These are our two targets and I am sure that we can at least win one of them.
Is there anything else you wish to tell the Club's supporters?
I just want to thank them all for supporting the Club and I promise them that I will play with all my heart for Birkirkara FC and will do my best in every remaining game.
