Stripes face Balzan in last match of the league
by Ayrton Galea - 28th April 2016Birkirkara FC will be all-out to finish the BOV Premier League on a positive note and extend their brilliant run, when this evening in the last match of the league, they take on Balzan FC.
The Stripes have confirmed their rich form last Sunday when they registered their seventh victory in the last eight matches, by beating Hibernians with a 2-1 score thanks to a goal by Vito Plut and a gem of a goal by Edmond Agius late in the match.
On the other hand, Balzan are coming from back-to-back defeats. After losing with a 3-1 score against Hibernians, they had a better performance but still ended on the losing side against Valletta with a 2-1 score.
The Stripes are in the third place, two points under Hibernians and three points over Balzan. A win for the Stripes would even hand them the possibility to end in the second place as the Paolites face Valletta on Saturday, while a draw would be enough to mathematically give them the third place.
Both teams will be unable to field their best formation as a player on each side is suspended. Nigerian forward Frank Temile for Birkirkara and midfielder Paul Fenech are suspended after both having been shown their fourth yellow card in their last outing.
The Stripes won the first-round match with a comfortable 4-1 score but it was Balzan who emerged victorious in the second-round match with a narrow 1-0 score, thanks to a solitary goal by Lydon Micallef in the second half.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and will kick off at 20:00.
Come on the Stripes!
