Nikola Jaros to make his debut as Stripes take on Sliema

by Ayrton Galea - 10th December 2016

Newly-appointed Head Coach Mr. Nikola Jaros will be making his debut as Birkirkara FC will be all-out to return on the right track when they take on Sliema Wanderers tomorrow afternoon in a tricky encounter in the BOV Premier League.

Coach Nikola Jaros, who succeeded Drazen Besek on Monday, will be hoping for a positive start at the helm of the Club and will see his side returning to winning ways in the BOV Premier League after last Sunday's defeat against Hamrun Spartans continued to further complicate things for the Stripes who have only won one match from the last five league matches.

The defeat against the Spartans saw the Stripes falling to the fifth place and they are now eighth points behind leaders Hibernians. Floriana continued to impress as they defeated second-placed Balzan to move alone in the fourth place while third-placed Valletta registered a comfortable 3-0 victory over bottom-placed Pembroke Athleta.

On the other hand, after quite a shaky start, Sliema Wanderers established themselves as one of the most organized teams in the Premier League under the guidance of Coach John Buttigieg. They are in the sixth place with twenty points, four points less than the Stripes.

Following back to back defeats against Valletta and Hibernians respectively, they returned to winning ways last weekend when a goal by Jean Paul Farrugia gave them a narrow 1-0 victory over strugglers Gzira United.

Birkirkara will be without the Serbian duo of Srdjan Dimitrov, who will be serving the second match suspended, and Nikola Vukanac after he was sent off last Sunday. On the other hand, Mark Scerri is suspended after collected the fourth yellow card in the last match.

In the first-round match, Sliema Wanderers had emerged as winners and had inflicted Birkirkara's first defeat in the league when they won with a 2-1 score. Alex Muscat and Wisdom Salamon scored for the Wanderers while Frank Temile had pulled one back for the Stripes.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and the match will kick off at 14:00.

Come on the Stripes!
