BOV Premier League - Balzan FC vs. Birkirkara FC

by Ayrton Galea - 13th January 2019

Birkirkara FC will start their second round of the BOV Premier League this afternoon, when they take on neighbours Balzan FC in a match that will be played at the National Stadium and kicks off at 14:00.

Have failed to meet the expectations of the beginning of the season, the Stripes have been one of
the most active local clubs in this transfer market as they have already signed five new players. They signed Maumer Svraka, Clayton Failla, Johann Bezzina, Jorge Pereira and Maurizio Vella.

They have relied on tried-and-tested foreign players as their new selection features Vella and Pereira who both have established themselves among the best foreigners in the BOV Premier League, with only Svraka is new for Maltese football.

The Stripes have also made a new addition in their technical department as they have added the high-profile John Arne Riise as their new sports director. Riise has led the last training sessions together with Mark Buttigieg and physical trainer Marco Cesar.

Birkirkara will be seeking to improve on their first-round and will be all-out to kick off their second and final round commitments with a victory against one of their challengers for a spot in European competitions this season. There is just one point separating the two sides prior this match.

Birkirkara are currently in the sixth place, just one point over Balzan FC. However, a point will lift them temporally to the fourth place for at least two hours as Sliema Wanderers and Valletta go head-to-head in this week's big match.

The Stripes emerged winners in the first-round match, when a penalty kick converted by Jake Grech was enough for a narrow 1-0 victory.

Come on the Stripes!
