Andrew Hogg joins Birkirkara FC - Jake Grech moves to Hibernians FC
by Ayrton Galea - 29th January 2019Birkirkara FC is delighted to announce another major signing in the January Transfer Market after the club has signed one of the best goalkeepers on the island, Andrew Hogg. Hogg signed a three and a half year contract with our club.
A regular goalkeeper of the Malta National Team, Hogg needs no introduction as he has been rated one of the best goalkeepers on our island for the last few years. The thirty-three-year-old goalkeeper is at present the regular goalkeeper of the National Team and he has made over sixty appearances.
The arrival of Hogg will see Birkirkara FC boast of two of the best goalkeepers on the island, as this will have no effect in any way on the future of Kristijan Naumovski who has a contract with our club till the end of this season.
A product of Pieta' Hotspurs FC, Hogg joined Valletta FC in 2007 where he played for five seasons before he moved to Cyprus to join Enosis Neon Paralimni FC. In the following season, he joined AEL Kalloni of Greece where he played for three seasons before returning to Malta with Hibernians FC.
Club's Technical Director, Mr. Michael Valenzia shared his views on this transfer, “We are delighted to have the Malta National Team goalkeeper with our Club. We have managed to obtain the signature of one of the most prominent players in the last few years.”
“We now have two great goalkeepers that will compete for a spot in the team. The club's Sporting Director, John Arne Riise, has emphasised that everyone has to fight for a place with this team and nothing is taken for granted.”
“The opportunity to sign Hogg was an opportunity that we could not refuse over and above the undisclosed fee that Hibernians FC paid to the club in this deal.”
Jake Grech moves to Hibernians FC
On the other hand, as part of this deal, Jake Grech will be moving to Hibernians FC, following his transfer request has been accepted by the club.
A former player of Hamrun Spartans FC, Jake joined our club in the beginning of season 2017-2018 and he has made a total of fourty-seven appearances with our club. He scored seventeen goals while voted the BOV Man of the Match six times.
We would like to welcome Andrew while wishing him all the best of luck in his adventure with our club. On the other hand, the club would like to thank Jake for his services with our club while wishing him all the best of luck in the future.
