Birkirkara FC appoints John Buttigieg as their new Head Coach

Birkirkara FC would like to announce the appointment of Mr. John Buttigieg as the new Club's Head Coach with immediate effect. Mr. Buttigieg signed a two-year contract with our club and he shall conduct his first training session this afternoon.

A former player of Sliema Wanderers FC, Floriana FC and Valletta FC in the domestic scene, Buttigieg will start his second spell with our Club after he was the Birkirkara Coach between March 2007 and July 2009. He won the FA Trophy in 2008 with our Club.

The fifty-five-year-old coach left Birkirkara's position to accept the request by the Malta Football Association for the position of the Senior Team Head Coach in July 2009. With the National Team, he stayed till October 2011.

He made his return to Birkirkara FC in December 2011 when together with his National Team Assistant Coach, Mr. Carmel Busutill, they were appointed to head the Birkirkara FC Academy.

In July 2014, he was appointed to technical director of Floriana FC before he made his return to Senior Team football in June 2016, when he was appointed the new Head Coach of Sliema Wanderers FC.

Coach Buttigieg will be working together with the Senior Team physical trainer Mr. Marco Cesar and goalkeepers' Coach Mr. Ruben Debono.
