Birkirkara FC started the new year on a positive note as in a direct clash from the BOV Women's League, they defeated title contenders Mgarr United FC with a 3-1 score thanks to a goal by Ann-Marie Said and a brace by Loza Abera

Fresh from the BOV Women's Super Cup triumph against the same Mgarr United, the Stripes produced another electrifying performance and their victory was well deserved.

By this result, Birkirkara are now six pix clear on top of the table, but Swieqi United who are occupying the second place have a game in hand.

League's top scorer Loza Abera once again stole the limelight in the second half as she netted another two goals for the Stripes. Loza, the league's top scorer, has now scored twenty-one goals in nine matches.

Coach Melania Bajada had Kailey Willis back available to her selection and included the promising youngster in the Starting XI as she replaced English winger Esther Anu. The Birkirkara Coach relied on the tried and tested 4-2-3-1 formation.

The Stripes surged ahead on the fifty-third minute. A corner kick taken by Tracy Teuma found Ann-Marie Said and the latter hit a bullet header past goalkeeper Patricia Ebejer.

Birkirkara doubled their lead on the seventy-first minute. Willis' acrobatic strike was blocked by goalkeeper Ebejer, but the rebound fell to the path of Loza Abera who hit home from close-range.

The Stripes made them three just six minutes later. Willis delivered an excellent cross in the path of Abera who did well to control the ball before her powerful strike got a deflection and hit past goalkeeper Ebejer.

Mgarr United scored a consolation goal one minute in the added time of the second half when Haley Bugeja stole the ball from goalkeeper Janice Xuereb and slotted home in an empty net.
