by Ivan Mizzi - 17th December 2011

John Buttigieg and Carmel Busutill have been appointed to head the Birkirkara FC Academy, after they agreed terms with our Club. This appointment is with immediate effect. In the transition period they will assist the current Nursery.

Both coaches need no introduction, as John Buttigieg assisted by Carmel Busutill were the former National Team Coaches, appointed in July 2009. Also, John Buttigieg is a former Birkirkara FC Head Coach. He was at the helm of the squad when Birkirkara won the FA Trophy against all odds in May 2008.

The main objective behind the engagement of these two high calibre coaches, is to create an academic and educational approach to football, as well as improving existing methods of coaching for all age groups.

A number of objectives have been already set for the coming months, prior to the official launch of the Academy in June 2012. These include a number of Open days for parents and children, morning classes for schools who would like to participate in football related activities, the setting up of a football library and archives within the Academy.

For more information, one can contact nursery@birkirkarafc.com. More details will be announced in the coming months.
