Birkirkara to face Olimpia Cluj-Napoca in first match of Women's Champions League

by Ayrton Galea - 11th August 2012

The Birkirkara FC Women's Team this evening will be involved in the first match of the much awaited UEFA Women's Champions League against Olimpia Cluj-Napoca.

Last season, Birkirkara were in a class of their own as they dominated the First Division League right from the start and they managed to go through the whole league campaign without a defeat. In fact, the local Champions registered 14 wins and four draws, scoring no less than 74 goals and conceding just eight. One of the best female players on the island, Rachel Cuschieri ended as the top scorer for Birkirkara with 17 goals.

On the other hand, today's opponents Olimpia Cluj-Napoca also dominated their respective league as they managed to win 23 out of their 24 matches, while they were defeated just once. Their only defeat was at the hand of Brazi when they were suffered a surprising loss of 3-0. They managed to score 216 goals while conceding just eight. Their biggest victory in the league was with a score of 19-0.

This will be the third time for Birkirkara to participate in this competition and without any doubt, the squad will try its best to give the best performance possible and achieve better results than in previous editions.

The match will be played at the Centenary Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 20:00. As already announced, entrance is for free.

We would like to encourage all the Birkirkara supporters to come to the Stadium and support our beloved team as their support can help the players go that extra mile.

Come on the Stripes!
