Birkirkara Girls Under-16's extended their brilliant string of victories when they chalked-up their fifth straight win, by defeating Mosta with a 3-1 score.

The superiority that Birkirkara showed in the first half, resulted in a two goal advantage before sealing the issue with the third goal. Mosta had a better showing in the second half, and they managed to narrow the gap.

The First Half

Birkirkara, went out with all guns blazing, and they wasted no time to surge ahead, as they broke the deadlock in their first scoring opportunity on the second minute. Raina Giusti showed great skills to dribble a Mosta defender, before sending a low cross which Mariah Sciberras slotted home from inches away.

Birkirkara continued to show superiority in the early moments. Mariah Sciberras threatened to double the score with a solo-action, which she concluded with a diagonal shot but it was parried by goalkeeper Maria Xuereb.

Mosta produced their first reaction on the eighth minute with a shot from outside the box which sailed over the bar.

Birkirkara replied three minute later with a cross-shot by Raina Giusti that ended wide.

Mosta had a golden opportunity to equalise on the fourteenth minute when they won possession from a defensive blunder, but the final shot ended over.

The Stripes doubled the lead on the fifteenth minute when Mariah sent an intelligent pass to Alishia Sultana, who beat the goalkeeper with a diagonal shot.

Birkirkara continued to dictate matters till the end of the first half and the referee's half-time whistle saw them leading with a 2-0 score.

The Second Half

Birkirkara went out strong once again and they threatened to increase the lead three minutes into the second half. Raina Giusti from a solo-action saw her final shot ending over.

A minute later, Birkirkara made them three. In a fast break-away, Alishia advanced, before serving an unmarked Mariah Sciberras who slotted home.

Mr. Johann Scicluna made a double substitution on the thirty-third minute as he replaced Alexia Galea and Maria Fenech with Samantha Zarb and Sarah Urpani.

Mosta pulled one back on the thirty-sixth minute with a low shot that beat goalkeeper Jennifer Galea.

Birkirkara almost restored the three goal lead on the forty-first minute but Raina's strike was parried by the goalkeeper.

Two minutes later a strike by Alishia Sultana ended wide.

Mr. Johann Scicluna effected his third change on the forty-fourth minute when he withdrew Raina Giusti and introduced Abigail Borg.

Alishia Sultana had another shot ending wide four minutes from the end.

The full time whistle found Birkirkara notching another important victory.
