Birkirkara FC conceded a goal in each half as a penalty on the half-hour mark and a late goal paved the way for Hibernians to win the BOV Women's Super Cup with a 2-0 score.

In a balanced encounter, Birkirkara and Hibernians played out an entertaining balanced game but a penalty on the half-hour mark converted by Ylenia Carabott put Hibernians in the lead before Martina Borg sealed the issue with the second goal in the added time of the second half.

Coach Mr. Jean Pierre Portanier was in the helm of the team for the first time after being appointed as a Coach in June. Club's signings during this Summer Transfer Market also made their debut. Oriana Bedingfield started from the start while Isabelle Mazzitelli and Heidi Kjaer were included in the second half. Catherine Campbelle was not available as her International Transfer Certificate has not arrived in time.

The First Half

The match had a balanced opening as the Stripes were containing their opponents in a comfortable matter. Hibernians had their first opportunity on the eighteenth minute when Francesca Chircop headed wide following a cross by Ylenia Carabott. The latter had an in-swinging shot ending wide two minutes later.

Hibernians surged ahead on the thirty-third minute when Martina Borg was floored inside the box by Kim Parnis and Referee Esther Azzopardi ordered the penalty. From the eleven metre spot, Ylenia Carabott converted and put Hibernians in the lead.

The first-half ended with the Paolites enjoying a narrow one-goal lead.

The Second Half

With the Stripes trailing by one, Melania Bajada was included off Martina Cilia as the Birkirkara Coach sought to strengthen his midfield department.

Birkirkara showed improvement but the match remained balanced and both goalkeepers were hardly tested. Ylenia Carabott had a shot saved by goalkeeper Janice Xuereb while Raina Giusti made a fine run concluded with a strike deflected into a corner kick.

The Stripes put everything forward at death with substitute Heidi Kjaer was now leading the trio in attack but it was the Paolites who sealed the issue. Substitute Rodiana Borg had her shot blocked by Xuereb and from the rebound, Martina Borg hit home from close-range.

Following the final whistle, as the Birkirkara's players were being awarded their runners-up medals, Hibernians' fans applauded them as a sense of sportsmanship, before they lifted their fifth Super Cup history.
