Stripes take on Hibs in match of the week

by Ayrton Galea - 25th October 2015

Birkirkara FC will be involved in the match of the week when this evening, they will battle it out against Hibernians FC for the third place in the league.

Despite many suggesting that the best of the Stripes is still to come, they are on a high after winning four out their five matches and registering three consecutive victories. Following the 1-1 draw against Mosta, the Stripes defeated Qormi with a 2-1 score, and St. Andrew's with a comfortable 4-1 result. In their last match they made a strong second-half comeback to defeat Sliema Wanderers with a 3-1 score.

The Stripes reinforcements in the attacking department are so far leaving the desired results as they are currently the best attacking force in Malta with twenty-one goals from eighth matches. Two of the this Summer's signings, Miccoli and Plut, have scored six goals each, to be the joint top-scorers of the BOV Premier League.

On the other hand, Hibernians have just won one match from their last three outings as they returned to winning ways in their last match with a goal deep in added time to beat Qormi with a 2-1 score. The victory helped them to recover from a 2-2 draw against Pembroke Athleta and a 4-1 trashing at the hands of Mosta.

Birkirkara and Hibernians are sharing the third place with seventeen points and despite the league still being in the first round, today's match has a significance that can put either team on the right track.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 17:00.

Come on the Stripes!
