Birkirkara FC Women's Team registered a dramatic late victory on Tuesday evening when a goal by Catherine Campbell four minutes from time enabled the Stripes to defeat Mgarr United to consolidate their second place.

Mgarr United came out strong and they dictated matters for the opening twenty minutes of the first-half but the Stripes showed great character to hold strong. The Stripes settled and began to play better football as time went by but there was nothing to separate both sides as the first-half ended in a goal-less draw.

The Stripes turned things around in the second half. They went out stronger and they had a slight edge over their opponents and they went close with a number of scoring opportunities. However, it was anything than one-way traffic as Mgarr didn't hold back and they went close on several occasions and they were the first to have the ball at the back of the net but the goal was disallowed for an offside position.

The Stripes registered the winning goal four minutes from time. Substitute Raina Giusti, who came in at half-time replacing Samantha Zarb who was handed her first start, produced a dazzling run down the left flank before drifting inside the box and served Catherine Campbell who was in the perfect position as the English midfielder hit a well-placed low shot at the back of the net.

Thanks to this victory which brought to an end the third round commitments on a positive note, the Stripes have thirty-four points, eleven points over third-place Mgarr United as the Stripes made a huge step towards mathematically confirm their second place. Hibernians are still leading the table nine points clear.
