Birkirkara FC Under-17's Team opened their preliminary group-phase's commitments with a fine 2-1 victory over Balzan FC.

The Stripes surged ahead after ten minutes. Jean Paul Baldacchino was floored inside the box and the referee ordered the penalty. From the spot, Paul Mbong made no mistake.

Balzan stepped-up their level inside the opening minutes of the second half and managed to equalise with a fine up-rising shot that beat the Birkirkara goalkeeper, Amara Sylla.

However, Balzan's joy of the equaliser was short-lived as Birkirkara regained the lead three minutes later. Paul Mbong and Sebastian Grech made a neat combination before the latter's shot hit past the Balzan goalkeeper.

The Stripes suffered a draw-back when goalkeeper Amara Sylla was sent off. However, the Stripes held strong for the remaining thirty minutes to start their group commitments with on a good note.
