Barbosa: I am very happy to debut with a victory

by Ayrton Galea - 10th January 2018

Debutant Fernando Barbosa was delighted with his satisfactory debut with our Club, following what he described as a great victory against Gzira United FC, and the Brazilian defender is looking forward to help the Club reaching its objectives.

The robust defender had an excellent start with our Club. Kicking off his experience with an impressive victory, the Brazilian certainly left a brilliant impression as his high-level defensive skills certainly caught the eye.

Barbosa is twenty-five years old, and he is coming from a short-spell with Portuguese side AD Nogueriense this season, after earlier this year he has also played for Brazilian side Alecrim FC. We started this interview by talking about his previous experiences.

The Brazilian opened by saying, “I had a pleasant experience with Alecrim FC, where I had the opportunity to work with Coach Athirson, and this has helped me a lot in my career. On the other hand, the spell with AD Nogueirense was very important to adopt in football in Europe.”

From Portugal to Malta, we have asked Barbosa on why did he join our Club. “I joined this Club because I knew that Birkirkara FC are one of the strongest Clubs in Malta. I know that the Club has a very good structure. Yes, I know a little about the Club as well as I'm aware that the Club has always challenged for the honours in the last years.”

He added, “I never thought that I will be playing in Malta, but I'm feeling really good. My first impressions of this country are the best possible, as it seems a very quiet and good country to live.”

Barbosa registered the perfect start with our Club, as while the team registered an impressive victory, he debuted with a brilliant performance. “Thanks to God, yes, I made a good start with the help of my team-mates and the Coach who gave me all the possible support. I am very happy to debut with a victory, but now it's time to continue working to achieve our objectives in the league.”

He went on by saying, “I must congratulate all the team for the victory against Gzira United FC. We played a great game, we were very focused, we did whatever the Coach told us and thanks to God, we got a great victory.”

Barbosa signed off this interview with a message to the supporters. “I want to the thank everyone for their welcome and support so far. They have been fundamental for Friday's victory and I know I can count on their support for the rest of the league. Together, we are stronger!”
