BOV Women's League - Birkirkara FC 2-0 Kirkop United FC

Birkirkara FC Women's Team moved just one point away from winning their third consecutive league title when they defeated Kirkop United FC with a 2-0 score on Wednesday evening.

The goalless draw against Mgarr United FC in the top of the table clash preserved Birkirkara's comfortable six-point lead and put them in the driving seat to defend their title for the second year running.

A goal in each half by Veronique Mifsud and Ylenia Carabott put them one point away and they can be declared mathematically champions next Tuesday if they get at least a point in their match against Hibernians FC.

Birkirkara, having three key-players missing including Kailey Willis, Tracy Teuma and Yasmeen Vella, made their intentions clear to notice right from the kick-off whistle and they produced several scoring chances.

They broke the deadlock on the twenty-fourth minute. A free-kick by Ylenia Carabott found Veronique Mifsud inside the box and the promising youngster hit a wonderful volley that gave goalkeeper Sharon Costantino no chance.

Encouraged by their first goal, the Stripes remained in command. A curling shot by Alishia Sultana ended wide while a powerful shot by Veronique Mifsud hit wide.

The Stripes doubled their lead four minutes into the second half. Ylenia Carabott produced a magnificent solo-action as she dribbled past her opponent, darted inside the box and struck a wonderful uprising shot into the right top corner of the net.

Birkirkara were unlucky not to make them three on the fifty-fifth minute. Giusti sprinted inside the box and struck a powerful shot that was denied by the crossbar.

The Stripes comfortably controlled their two-goal lead to register a sixteenth victory in this league campaign.
