Birkirkara FC Youths League Section A Champions 2018-2019

Birkirkara FC are the new champions of the Youths League Section A when yesterday evening, they defeated Pieta' Hotspurs FC with a 2-1 score after the extra-time period.

In an entertaining match between the best two sides of the Youths League Section A, both teams produced a determined performance to crown their magnificent season but a goal in the extra-time period handed the crown to the Stripes.

Following a balanced opening, both teams struck their first goal in space of nine minutes. Captain Jan Busutill hit a brilliant drive to put Pieta' Hotspurs FC ahead on the twenty-seventh minute, but Alessio Azzopardi's header nine minutes later made the score level.

Both teams created several scoring opportunities in the second half with Ayrton Attard going close for the Stripes, but his shot sailed over the bar as the match went to the extra-time period.

The Stripes scored the winning goal four minutes from the end of the extra-time period. Substitute Nevin Portelli kept his cool to hit a wonderful low free-kick that surprised the goalkeeper Miguel Abela.

The referee's full-time whistle found Birkirkara erupting with joy before Captain and league's top scorer Ayrton Attard lifted the Youths League Section A title for the second time in the club's history.
